Indian River Medical Center (IRMC) is a 335-bed, Duke University affiliated ,not-for-profit medical center that offers many services that are usually only found in academic medical centers. Its staff of healthcare professionals includes more than 240 affiliated physicians representing 41 different specialties who provide a wide range of quality medical care and services. IRMC is accredited by The Joint Commission and a number of departments and services have received state and national certification.
Affiliated with Duke University Health System, The Heart Center offers cardiac surgery, angioplasty and a full array of cardiac services. Its outstanding surgery outcomes have earned it recognition as one of the top cardiac surgery programs in America by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The hospital's high quality vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery techniques and technologies have earned national recognition. The 43-bed Emergency Department averages 50,000 ER visits annually and features an acute care area for serious and potential life-threatening problems; a minor care area for scrapes, cuts, colds and other non life-threatening problems; and a new Clinical Evaluation Unit for patients who need up to 23 hours in the Emergency Department for extra testing and observation. The hospital's comprehensive cancer program includes surgery, chemotherapy and the latest advances in radiation therapy at the Cancer Center. A 46-bed psychiatric hospital, the Behavioral Health Center, provides inpatient care for children and adults and pediatric outpatient services. In addition to being designated as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, IRMC services also include an award-winning Wound Healing Center that features two hyperbaric oxygen chambers, a Medication Management Clinic, the Rehabilitation Therapy Center for outpatient hand, physical, occupational and speech therapies, Philips Lifeline medical alert service, and Treasure Coast Bariatric for weight loss surgery. Indian River County's only maternity service, IRMC welcomes 1,300 new babies to the world each year.
